Regina, Saskatchewan – March 21, 2025 – In a landmark move for Canada’s carbon markets, EmissionTech RX Inc. (“EmissionTech RX”) and OTIC Ecology Inc. (“OTIC”) have signed a non-binding Letter of Intent (LOI) to merge their First Nations-focused carbon business lines, forming Indigenous Carbon RX Inc. (“Indigenous Carbon”) — set to become Canada’s largest Indigenous-led carbon solutions company.
Through its relationship with Carbon RX, EmissionTech RX brings a proven track record of developing nature-based carbon credit projects, alongside deep relationships with First Nations communities. By combining this expertise with OTIC’s Indigenous ownership and forestry leadership, Indigenous Carbon is uniquely positioned to drive forward carbon projects in improved forest management, reforestation, and regenerative cattle grazing — all under a united, Indigenous ownership structure.
“Our First Nations partners have been clear — they’re seeking more than employment. They want ownership in the carbon economy,” said Marty Seymour, CEO of EmissionTech RX. “This merger creates lasting equity opportunities for Indigenous communities in a sector that aligns with First Nation cultural values and aspirations.”
OTIC Ecology was founded by Tatanka Oyate Holdings LP, the economic development arm of Wahpeton Dakota Nation to advance sustainable forest land management and unlock economic potential through reforestation and nature-based carbon solutions.
“By merging our complimentary expertise, OTIC and EmissionTech RX are creating a force multiplier for Indigenous leadership in climate action,” said Robert Fincati, Co-Founder of OTIC. “This partnership accelerates our shared vision for First Nations ownership in carbon markets and the protection of our lands for future generations.”
Finalization of the merger is subject to $2 million USD in capital funding and board approvals from both organizations.
